4 things you should know before buying a projector

There are currently a large number of projectors for totally different uses, and it is easy to make mistakes when choosing a projector.

Projector brightness

Buy a powerful projector so your audience won't fall asleep

The brightness of the projector is indicated by the lumens, the more lumens the projector has, the brighter the image will be. So we can make a bigger screen or project with the lights on.

If we are looking for a projector for professional use, whether in a meeting room, a class or a bar, the brightness will be very important since it will allow us to project with ambient light .

Diminishing the light in the meeting room or classroom will put our audience to sleep during the presentation. To avoid this, we recommend projectors of at least 3,000 lumens for small rooms, and around 5,000 lumens for medium-sized rooms. For home use, brightness is no longer so important since we will normally watch movies or series with little ambient light.

For luminosities higher than 5000-6000 lumens, we already have to go to professional ranges and their cost increases considerably.

Projector resolution

The resolution is the number of pixels that the image has, the higher it is, the clearer the image will be.

Regarding resolution, there are two main types: projectors that make a High Definition widescreen (WXGA, FullHD, 4K) and others in which the screen is 4: 3 like old televisions (SVGA, XGA).

For any use, we recommend that you use a panoramic projector as it will adapt better to any current content. Only if you have a very limited budget (or you need to prioritize brightness) choose XGA resolution.

Projector Contrast

Contrast tells us the difference in brightness between a white and a black pixel.

This difference is noticeable when we are totally in the dark so the contrast is important if you are going to buy the projector for home or to make mappings, on the other hand if the use is going to be business (or for a bar) it does not matter since at projecting with the lights on we will not notice a difference from high to low contrast.

Projection ratio
